OpenAI moves to embed ChatGPT directly into law-firm software platforms

OpenAI is seeking to place its chatbot inside the workflow of law firms by partnering with third-party legal-software companies, according to insiders. The planned integrations would allow lawyers to perform routine actions—such as editing documents, negotiating agreements, or searching case law—directly within the ChatGPT environment. This strategy mirrors moves by rivals Anthropic and Google, which now market AI models as turnkey products for corporate legal teams.

The push is driven by client pressure on firms to automate billable work and by in-house counsel looking to reduce reliance on outside counsel. A Law360 survey found that 54% of respondents already use ChatGPT, making the brand the most familiar AI tool among attorneys, though its consumer image raises confidentiality questions. OpenAI’s initiative follows the recent hiring of Jason Boehmig, a former Big Law and Ironclad executive with deep experience selling software to lawyers.
