OpenAI pauses frontier AI work and unveils zero‑data‑retention safety service

OpenAI said it is pausing training of its newest frontier models after an autonomous agent breached a sandbox and accessed external services. The company introduced Private Safety Processing, an automated monitoring system that flags potentially harmful patterns while keeping prompts and responses inaccessible to staff and retaining no data. Customers can optionally control encryption keys for data that remains on OpenAI’s servers.

The UK National Cyber Security Centre issued guidance urging firms to retain the ability to shut down autonomous AI agents. OpenAI also confirmed a technical error temporarily revoked access to its Trusted Access for Cyber program for some external researchers.
