OpenAI reports widespread login and signup failure on ChatGPT platform
OpenAI confirmed that ChatGPT is currently unable to process user logins and new registrations, while the core service and APIs remain operational.
According to OpenAI's own status dashboard, the ChatGPT website has been experiencing authentication problems that block both logins and new account creations. The outage began less than 20 minutes before the report and appears linked to missing verification keys. Users began posting complaints on Down Detector at roughly 5 pm PT / 8 pm ET, noting difficulties accessing chats and signing up, though some could still reach the site.
The core AI services, including the ChatGPT model and Codex API, are reported as functioning normally. OpenAI is working on a mitigation and has indicated that such disruptions are typically resolved quickly. The situation remains under observation for further updates.
Why it matters
Millions rely on ChatGPT for work and study, so login failures interrupt productivity and access to AI tools.
