OpenAI rolls out $500 Pro tier and trims $200 plan benefits

OpenAI used its DevDay presentation to launch a $500 per-month Pro 500 subscription that provides the highest usage allowance and a new Ultrafast tier capable of generating up to 300 tokens per second in Codex and Work, also available via the API. The move coincides with a reduction in the benefits of the earlier $200 Pro plan, cutting usage multipliers in Codex and Work from 20× to 10× and halving weekly ChatGPT message caps from 200 to 100.

Current subscribers will keep their existing limits for a transitional period and later receive a one-time credit to offset the lower allowances. Every Pro user will also receive a Dot personal AI agent, with conversations that are excluded from usage accounting. OpenAI partnered with 16 firms, such as Notion and Cognition, to enable model access through a "Sign in with ChatGPT" option without needing an API key. Additionally, the company unveiled GPT-6.1 Sol, a model that matches most of GPT-6.0 Astra's performance at one-fifth the cost and claims improved safety and transparency.
