OpenAI seeks $30 billion infusion, targeting $1.4 trillion valuation
OpenAI is pursuing a new funding round of at least $30 billion, aiming for a post-money valuation of roughly $1.4 trillion.
According to insiders, OpenAI intends to secure at least $30 billion in a fresh financing round, targeting a valuation near $1.4 trillion that excludes the new money. The fundraising replaces a delayed initial public offering and could restore the firm’s lead over rival Anthropic, which recently filed for a public listing. Investors are said to be driving the round, encouraged by a summer revenue run-rate that surpassed $40 billion and a 70% increase since July.
In parallel, OpenAI unveiled a premium $500 subscription plan, trimmed limits on its $200 tier, and launched an always-on AI agent named Dots to challenge competing products. The company also postponed the release of its GPT-6.1 Astra model for safety reasons and backed Anthropic’s Dario Amodei’s proposal to slow cutting-edge AI development. CEO Sam Altman reiterated that the firm prefers to avoid the pressures of a near-term IPO.
Why it matters
The funding could cement OpenAI's dominance in AI and shape the sector's future growth and safety standards.
