OpenAI to give Ukraine free AI-driven cyber-defense system
OpenAI will provide Ukraine’s government with its AI-based cyber-defense platform at no charge, aiming to safeguard civilian infrastructure such as hospitals and power plants.
OpenAI announced that it will share its Daybreak cyber-defense platform with the Ukrainian government free of charge. The AI-driven tool can rapidly pinpoint vulnerabilities in digital systems and assist in creating mitigation strategies. The agreement also grants Ukraine use of OpenAI’s latest GPT-5.6 model.
George Osborne, former UK chancellor and OpenAI’s head of country operations, emphasized that protecting civilian infrastructure means defending it from both physical and digital attacks. Cyber-security experts noted that Russian offensive cyber activity has been a key element of the conflict since 2014, and that any boost to Ukraine’s defensive capabilities is a valuable force multiplier. Ukraine already employs AI tools from other providers, highlighting the growing role of advanced models in both defending and potentially attacking networks.
