Opposition calls for CEC resignation while Election Commission says SIR orders were unanimously approved

The Congress party has demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has disenfranchised millions of voters. Two election commissioners, Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, have raised objections to the SIR process, questioning changes to Form 6 and the authority of the commission's IT director over voter‑data access. The Election Commission has issued a clarification stating that all SIR orders were approved unanimously by the three commissioners, and the Supreme Court has affirmed the legality of the SIR.

In response, the commission has outlined a procedure for Booth Level Officers to collect documents from voters flagged during the SIR, with online hearings and additional help desks to be set up. Opposition parties in the INDIA bloc are planning a meeting in New Delhi to coordinate further challenges to the SIR and the commission's actions.
