Oracle announces additional 70 job cuts in Ireland as AI expansion costs rise
Oracle will eliminate another 70 positions in Ireland, mainly in engineering, to fund its AI and data-centre investments.
Oracle has launched a collective redundancy procedure in Ireland, targeting 70 additional jobs after notifying employees on Tuesday. The majority of the positions slated for elimination are in engineering and development, with a smaller number in sales and finance. This move follows earlier reductions that have already trimmed about 150 roles, leaving the company with an estimated workforce of 650 in the Republic.
Oracle’s broader strategy involves a substantial rollout of data centres to support its AI-driven cloud platform, a venture that has driven high capital spending. The company previously reported a global headcount cut of roughly 13 percent and incurred $1.84 billion in severance costs. Share price pressure has persisted, though the stock rose modestly after rumors of further U.S. cuts emerged.
Why it matters
The layoffs highlight the high cost of Oracle's AI push and its impact on Irish employment.
