Oracle to cut up to 3,000 jobs in India as Microsoft places 500 staff on performance plans

Oracle announced a new round of job reductions in India that may impact up to 3,000 employees, adding to a previous cut of about 12,000 roles. The company, which has a workforce of roughly 30,000 in the country, is reallocating resources toward AI-driven and other emerging capabilities. Meanwhile, Microsoft is implementing performance improvement plans for roughly 400-500 staff members in India, representing about 2% of its local headcount.

A Microsoft spokesperson emphasized that PIPs are a formal process that can include coaching, voluntary separation or termination, and that the share of employees on such plans is small. Market researchers Pareekh Jain, Gaurav Vasu and Kamal Karanth note that these actions are part of broader industry trends toward skill realignment rather than a direct substitute for layoffs.
