Orange County surgeon loses license after violating probation terms

Orange County orthopedic surgeon Grant Robicheaux, whose 2018 sexual-assault allegations attracted worldwide attention, saw his medical career end when the Medical Board of California revoked his license in August. After pleading guilty in 2023 to a felony gun-possession count and a misdemeanor psilocybin-possession count, he was placed on probation with a strict compliance agreement. The board’s terms included two years of substance-abuse meetings, abstaining from controlled substances, random drug testing and reimbursement of more than $30,000 for the investigation.

State filings show Robicheaux failed to check in for drug-test scheduling more than a dozen times in 2025, refused four random tests, missed December meetings and stopped monthly payments after September 2025. The board concluded he violated the agreement and revoked his license. His lawyer, Philip Kent Cohen, noted that the surgeon has not worked as a physician for over five years and his reputation is irreparably damaged.
