Orange offers extra data to customers after lengthy network outage

Orange will automatically double the data allowance for affected subscribers following a ten-hour network failure.

On a recent weekday, Orange experienced a significant outage that knocked out mobile connectivity for a large portion of its customers for about ten hours. The problem stemmed from a malfunction in equipment that manages the carrier's core network, preventing phones from connecting even though antenna sites remained active. Service was restored late in the day after the technical team resolved the issue.

In response, Orange announced that it will automatically double the data package for the affected users for one month, starting with their next renewal, and no customer request is needed. This compensation will give, for example, a 50 GB plan the ability to use 100 GB during the period. The company acknowledged that the measure may not fully satisfy all subscribers, especially those who already have large data allowances or use little mobile internet.

Why it matters

Customers receive automatic data credits after a major service disruption, highlighting how telecom firms address outage fallout.
