Oregon Ducks intensify chase for Texas quarterback Tristin Gaines in 2028 recruiting push

The Oregon Ducks have stepped up their pursuit of four-star quarterback Tristin Gaines, ranking them as a leading contender in the 2028 class.

The Oregon Ducks are sharpening their focus on Texas quarterback Tristin Gaines, a four-star recruit ranked No. 8 among 2028 quarterbacks. He is scheduled to visit Eugene on Oct. 10 for the Ducks' matchup with UCLA, and he told a recruiting analyst that Oregon is pursuing him the hardest right now, prompting the analyst to label the Ducks the new leader in the race. Gaines also plans trips to Texas Tech and Michigan later in the fall.

Oregon continues to court top-rated Josiah Boyd, who will visit for the Sept. 18 game against Portland State, and the program already secured a pledge from 2027 signal-caller Will Mencl. The Ducks' recruiting calendar also includes other targets such as receiver Jayce Halasz and edge rusher Kameron McGee, while Gaines remains in frequent contact with quarterbacks coach Koa Ka'ai.

Why it matters

Oregon's aggressive recruiting of a top quarterback could shape the team's future performance.
