Oregon sex offender arrested after attempting to enroll in Minnesota high school with false identity

A 29-year-old Oregon registered sex offender was arrested in Hennepin County after trying to enroll at Maple Grove High School using a fabricated identity and false documents.

Maple Grove Senior High staff received an enrollment request from someone using the alias Molly Lennox Fox, who said they were a 17-year-old homeless youth from Oregon and invoked the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act to obtain immediate placement. The individual was actually Makayla Ray Craig, a 29-year-old registered sex offender from Oregon, who forged documents and claimed a birthdate of Jan. 27 2009. Because the school lacked proper identification, the applicant was temporarily placed in an online program, but staff grew wary and contacted a school resource officer.

Police located Craig in a public parking ramp on October 20, 2026, arrested him on three felony counts—including aggravated forgery—and booked him at the Maple Grove Police Department. He is being held at Hennepin County Jail on $50,000 bail, with a court appearance scheduled. The incident follows a similar forgery case involving Kelvin Micaiah Luebke at White Bear Lake High School in 2025.

Why it matters

The case shows how falsified identities can exploit school enrollment systems and the need for vigilant verification.
