Organic Food Giant Shuts Santa Rosa Plant, Cuts 260 Jobs and Moves Production to Oregon and Idaho

The organic-food company, which generates roughly $1 billion in annual retail sales, is withdrawing from California manufacturing by shutting its Santa Rosa factory. Paul Schiefer said the decision came after evaluating all alternatives and expressed gratitude to the local workforce. The shutdown will be carried out in stages, with 260 employees slated for separation and offered support services.

Production capacity will be consolidated at existing plants in Medford, Oregon, and Pocatello, Idaho, where a separate WARN filing indicates dozens more jobs will be eliminated by year-end. Corporate headquarters will remain in downtown Petaluma, the firm’s founding location in 1987.
