Oriana Power wins ₹3,870 cr Maharashtra battery storage contracts totaling 900 MW
Oriana Power received two award letters from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co for 900 MW of battery storage projects worth ₹3,870 crore, to be run under 15-year purchase agreements.
Oriana Power announced that Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co awarded it two letters of award for battery energy storage systems totaling 900 MW and 1,800 MWh. The combined contract value is ₹3,870 crore, with the 500 MW/1,000 MWh and 400 MW/800 MWh projects priced at ₹2,142 crore and ₹1,728 crore respectively. These installations will operate under 15-year purchase agreements.
The allocation resulted from a tariff-based global competitive bidding round that incorporated viability gap funding via the Power System Development Fund scheme, conducted through an e-reverse auction. MSEDCL had originally floated a 2,000 MW/4,000 MWh tender, and the expected VGF contribution is ₹324 crore.
Why it matters
The deal expands large-scale battery storage in India, supporting grid stability and renewable integration.
