Orlando Bloom urges global aid to avert crisis in Cox's Bazar refugee camp

Hollywood actor Orlando Bloom, 49, used a recent interview to press the international community to restore aid for the Rohingya population living in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, where more than one million people reside in 33 makeshift camps. He highlighted looming cuts in foreign assistance, notably an anticipated 40 % reduction in UK contributions, which have left UNICEF facing a £10 million financing gap and jeopardized health, education and protection services for children.

Bloom said the children’s futures are at stake and that political decisions made far away should not dictate their survival. UNICEF UK’s “No Choice But Childhood” campaign echoed the plea, urging the UK government to commit 25 % of its development budget to sustain essential services. The agency also warned of rising skin disease cases and grave violations affecting hundreds of children in early 2026. The appeal follows a decade of displacement after a brutal campaign forced Rohingya Muslims to flee Myanmar’s Rakhine state.
