Oscar-winning Israelis debut documentary on Gaza civilian deaths at Venice Festival

Two Israeli documentarians, Oscar winners Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, are set to unveil "NAZA" at the Venice Film Festival, a film that alleges systematic Israeli targeting of Palestinian civilians in Gaza. Produced by British duo Jim Wilson and Jonathan Glazer, with support from one outlet, the work draws on interviews with Israeli troops and references a military code that predicts civilian deaths in airstrikes.

The festival this year features several Gaza-related titles, including "Citizen Osama" and the award-winning "The Voice of Hind Rajab". The filmmakers previously earned an Oscar for "No Other Land", which examined settler violence in the West Bank. The debut arrives amid growing condemnation of Israel’s war tactics from entertainers like Susan Sarandon and a noted shift in public opinion in the West. Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry reports roughly 73,500 deaths and 174,500 injuries since the conflict began in October 2023.
