Oslo hotel worker charged with serving expired chicken to police during king's funeral

Authorities in Oslo have charged a woman in her thirties, who works at a centrally located hotel, with attempting to harm a public servant by serving police officers chicken that was past its expiration date during the week of King Harald’s funeral. Police say the meal was prepared with the intent to complicate police operations, though the suspect and her counsel argue the food was fine and that the case stems from a misunderstanding.

No one has become sick, and the Food Safety Authority notes that expired items can carry serious health risks. After a brief detention of roughly one and a half days, the woman was released from central custody. The investigation, led by the Oslo police’s legal unit, includes interviews and forensic analysis, while roughly 3,000 officers were deployed for the funeral events.
