Outsider Pictures Acquires U.S. Rights to Cannes Winner 'Congo Boy'
Santa Monica-based Outsider Pictures has secured U.S. distribution for Rafiki Fariala’s Cannes-awarded film “Congo Boy,” which will debut in North America at Toronto.
Outsider Pictures, headquartered in Santa Monica, announced it will distribute Rafiki Fariala’s Cannes-winning drama “Congo Boy” across the United States, with its North American premiere set for the Toronto festival. The film, part of the Un Certain Regard competition, secured a best-actor award for Bradley Fiomona, who portrays Robert, a teenager supporting his younger siblings after their parents are jailed. Fariala, who fled the Democratic Republic of Congo as a child, describes the narrative as a fictionalized account of his own life, including his reliance on music.
CEO Paul Hudson said the company intends to release the movie in as many cities as possible, highlighting its uplifting, audience-friendly nature. The project is a four-country co-production involving Makongo Films, Unité, Kiripifilms, and Karta Film, with The Party Film Sales managing worldwide sales and distribution deals already in place for Germany, Austria, France, and Brazil.
