Over 1.2 million Texas voter registrations flagged as suspended ahead of Senate race

In Texas, six percent of registered voters—over 1.2 million individuals—have been assigned a suspended status because county officials cannot confirm their current address. This designation does not prevent them from casting a ballot in November, but it requires them to fill out a statement of residence on Election Day and may result in a provisional ballot if they have relocated. The suspended registrations are spread statewide, with notable concentrations of more than 129,000 in Dallas County, 56,000 each in Collin and Denton counties, and over 73,000 in Tarrant County.

Voters must correct their status by October 5 through the Texas secretary of state’s website, a county election office, or by mail. With such a sizable number of affected voters, the situation could prove decisive in close contests, particularly the Senate race where James Talarico holds a narrow lead over Ken Paxton. Texas is also cooperating with the Trump administration’s efforts to assume greater control over election rolls.
