Over 20,000 Sign Petition Calling for Independent Probe of UK's Role in Gaza
More than 20,000 people have signed a petition demanding an independent inquiry into Britain's involvement in Israel's Gaza campaign, with Jeremy Corbyn voicing support.
A petition launched by trade unionist and Your Party organiser Jennifer Forbes has attracted more than 20,000 signatures demanding a fully independent investigation into any British participation in Israel's Gaza operations, including weapons sales, surveillance aircraft and the use of Royal Air Force bases. The petition also asks for disclosure of the legal advice the government received on whether genocide is occurring in Gaza.
Former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has publicly backed the effort, posting on Instagram that a transparent government would have nothing to hide. One outlet administration, led by Andy Burnham, dismissed previous calls for an inquiry, arguing that parliamentary mechanisms already provide sufficient oversight. Because the petition exceeded the 10,000-signature threshold, the government must now issue an official response, and a total of 100,000 signatures would trigger a parliamentary debate. In June, a separate petition on Israeli influence attracted more than 118,000 signatures, with independent MP Ayoub Khan among its advocates.
Why it matters
