Over 20,000 teaching posts remain unfilled in the Philippines' DepEd
Rep. Maricar Zamora said more than 20,000 teaching positions in the Department of Education are still vacant as lawmakers review the 2026 budget.
Zamora told the House that the DepEd created over 31,000 teaching posts under the 2026 General Appropriations Act, but only about 22,700 have been filled. This leaves upwards of 20,000 vacancies. The figures were provided after ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio asked about the vacancy count during budget deliberations in Manila.

The vacancy gap threatens the Philippines' capacity to provide adequate education to its students.
