Over 20 Bangladeshi passports seized in Klang business raid
More than 20 Bangladeshi passports were uncovered during a joint Selangor Immigration Department and Klang Royal City Council raid on a Meru shop in Klang, sparking an investigation.
A joint sweep by the Selangor Immigration Department and Klang Royal City Council began at 11 am in Meru, Klang, after receiving intelligence about possible irregularities among foreign workers. Inspectors initially focused on a row of businesses but discovered a hidden rear room in one shop, prompting a deeper search. The search uncovered more than 20 Bangladeshi passports with valid particulars, several kept in a locked safe.
Acting Immigration director Mohmad Khusairi Kamarudin described the find as suspicious and said investigators will determine who stored the passports and will summon the employer, believed to be a Bangladeshi national. A man in his early twenties who was temporarily looking after the premises said he was paid RM50 by a friend and had no knowledge of the hidden room. The immigration department is now pursuing the case to identify responsibility for the documents.
Why it matters
The find suggests possible passport misuse and illegal labor practices in Malaysia.
