Over 24 million barrels of crude swapped in Gulf of Oman ship-to-ship transfers

According to the maritime monitoring service TankerTrackers, seventeen crude oil and gas (including LNG and LPG) ship-to-ship exchanges took place in the Gulf of Oman on 2026-09-04, involving at least 24 million barrels of crude. The tracker highlighted a growing queue of oil-filled tankers seeking partners, suggesting that the limited space is becoming a bottleneck and keeping port services continuously active. In addition, the service spotted roughly 7.25 million barrels of product, together with two LNG carriers, moving toward the Gulf of Oman via the Strait of Hormuz while under the escort of US Central Command forces. TankerTrackers described the day as “busy,” emphasizing the high volume of transfers and the logistical challenges posed by the crowded waters.
