Over 5,000 Dorper Sheep Valued at $1.7 Million Stolen Near Blackall, Queensland

Between February and May, a rural property near Blackall on the Blackall-Isisford Road suffered the loss of roughly 5,500 dorper sheep, an estimated value exceeding $1.7 million. The herd, marked with white National Livestock Identification System tags, was reported missing to the Rural and Stock Crime Squad, which is now appealing for public assistance. Detectives are particularly interested in reports of suspicious stock handling, transport, or any odd behaviour in the vicinity.

Senior Sergeant Paul Elliot emphasized that livestock theft remains a major issue for Queensland’s countryside, causing significant economic damage and adding pressure to farmers already facing tough conditions. He noted that investigations often cover large areas and rely on cooperation with producers, saleyards, transport firms, and industry groups to locate perpetrators and curb the crime.
