Over 50 people rescued as floodwaters surge in Padang neighborhoods

Heavy rain caused rivers to overflow in Padang, flooding Koto Panjang Ikua and Lubuk Minturun and prompting the rescue of more than 50 residents.

Saturday afternoon rains triggered river overflows that flooded the Koto Panjang Ikua and Lubuk Minturun areas of Padang's Koto Tangah Subdistrict, with water depths exceeding half a meter. The Padang Search and Rescue Office, led by field commander Tri Desyu Herman, coordinated an evacuation that lasted from the afternoon into the night, rescuing more than 50 people using inflatable boats and rope lines. Gen. Solihin of the West Sumatra Regional Police and personnel from the regional disaster mitigation agency joined the effort. Responders focused on the most vulnerable, including young children, pregnant women, seniors and those with illnesses.
