Over 7,300 pilgrims rescued as Kedarnath trek landslide cleanup continues
More than 7,300 pilgrims have been safely evacuated from the Kedarnath trek after a landslide, while crews work to clear the damaged route.
The State Emergency Operations Centre confirmed that by 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, more than 7,300 pilgrims and about 1,200 mules had been evacuated from the landslide-affected area near the Chirbasa helipad, roughly 2.5 km above Gaurikund. The trek was blocked on Sunday after rocks and debris fell, forcing pilgrims on foot to stay at Sonprayag and Gaurikund. Police have urged travelers to wait and follow safety guidelines while officials clear the obstruction.
Restoration crews are working to remove the material and repair the trail, but the pilgrimage remains suspended until the route is deemed safe. The ongoing effort aims to resume the annual Kedarnath Yatra as soon as possible.
