Over 90 groups accuse authorities of systematic violence against migrants in Ceuta

Border Resistance, an NGO defending migrants and asylum seekers in the Mediterranean and the Sahel, issued a communiqué backed by more than 90 organisations and political parties. The document claims that migrants left homeless in Ceuta are subjected to systematic, planned aggression by security personnel, including punches, baton blows to the face, kicks with combat boots and destruction of their belongings. The report stresses that LGBTQ+ migrants endure intensified violence and lack any place of safety.

According to the statements, night patrols arrive with shouting and insults, and the most severe assaults occur in the early hours before dawn, when agents forcibly wake sleepers with batons and force them to leave. The complaint also notes that local civilians use tear-gas, confiscate phones and money, and that some medical facilities refuse treatment to injured migrants. It calls for an immediate halt to the attacks, an independent international investigation, and clarification of the number of deaths linked to the recent border crossing.
