Over a quarter of overseas US troop sexual assaults occurred in Poland last year
New military data show that more than 25% of reported sexual assaults involving US service members abroad happened in Poland, where 73 cases were recorded.
According to the latest congressional-required military report, Poland registered 73 sexual assault complaints involving US personnel last year, representing more than one-quarter of all overseas cases. The number is twice that of any other nation where US troops are stationed and marks the third consecutive year Poland tops the list. The rise coincides with an increase of roughly 10,000 troops deployed to strengthen NATO’s eastern border amid the conflict in Ukraine.
While total global reports fell by about 2% to 7,998, the Polish tally stands out alongside notable figures from Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq and Romania. Individual incidents, such as the conviction of Army Sgt. Ulrich Kameni for assaults in Poland, illustrate the problem’s severity. Senators and Army spokespeople praised the overall decline but emphasized the need for continued prevention and survivor support.
