A conspicuous Trump Superstore situated along Interstate 40 near Knoxville, Tennessee, is closing and discounting its remaining inventory by 50 percent. Initial local coverage suggested the closure stemmed from the owner’s planned move to Florida, but employees on site, including a worker named Dan, told reporters that traffic has dwindled dramatically. Hays, the 80-year-old proprietor who also operates a merchandise shop in Gatlinburg, refuted claims of retirement and confirmed that the business is shutting because sales have slumped.
He recalled earlier spikes in visitors after events such as Charlie Kirk’s shooting and a Trump-ordered bombing of Iran, as well as a surge following an attempted assassination of Trump in July 2024. Dan added that shoppers are now prioritizing basic expenses over MAGA-themed purchases. Hays said he does not intend to sell the property, believing its value remains stable, and plans to pursue a new venture focused on profit.
