OWWA seeks confirmation of Filipino death in Saudi drone strike

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration is verifying reports that a Filipino may have been killed in a drone incident in Saudi Arabia.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration announced it is still confirming reports that a Filipino national was killed in a drone incident in Saudi Arabia. Saudi Energy Ministry statements said debris from a drone intercepted over the Shaybah oil field resulted in the death of a Filipino and a Nepali, and injured a Pakistani and an Indian. OWWA administrator PY Caunan said the agency has received these reports and is awaiting formal confirmation from Saudi authorities and the relevant company before finalizing its response.

OWWA indicated it stands ready to support the victim’s family once details are verified. The incident follows a previous Houthi-claimed strike that left seven Filipinos wounded, three in critical condition.

Why it matters

It underscores the vulnerability of overseas Filipino workers and the need for prompt government assistance after foreign incidents.
