Pacifico Energy and PTSC begin offshore wind surveys for 1.8 GW projects in Vietnam
Pacifico Energy and Vietnam Petroleum Technical Services Corp. launched marine surveys on October 13 for two offshore wind projects totaling 1.8 GW.
On October 13, Pacifico Energy and Vietnam Petroleum Technical Services Corp. (PTSC) commenced offshore surveys for two wind farms that together will provide 1.8 GW of capacity. The Southern offshore wind project, slated for 500 MW, lies off Ho Chi Minh City, while the larger South Central offshore wind project No. 3, planned at 1,300 MW, is situated off Lam Dong province. PTSC Marine GS is carrying out geophysical and meteorological-oceanographic surveys to map seabed conditions and gather ocean data, a step that moves the projects beyond permitting into technical design.
Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has already authorized the use of the designated marine zones for these activities. Officials said the surveys could pave the way for more than $6 billion in later-stage investment, positioning Pacifico Energy among the most advanced foreign investors in Vietnam's offshore wind sector.
Why it matters
The surveys mark a concrete step toward developing large-scale offshore wind capacity in Vietnam, boosting clean energy and foreign investment.
