Packers draft Florida kicker Trey Smack to stabilize their kicking game

The Green Bay Packers selected 23-year-old University of Florida kicker Trey Smack in the sixth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, hoping he will resolve the team's recent kicking woes.

Since Mason Crosby left, the Packers have cycled through several kickers, including Anders Carlson, Brayden Narveson and Brandon McManus, without finding lasting stability. In the sixth round of the 2026 draft, Green Bay chose Trey Smack, a 23-year-old former University of Florida standout who earned third-team All-SEC honors and set a program record with ten field goals over 50 yards. Smack's college numbers include a 35-for-42 field-goal conversion rate and a perfect extra-point record.

During training camp he went 3-for-5 on live kicks, and in his first preseason game he nailed three attempts, one from 58 yards. The team hopes his demonstrated leg strength and accuracy will finally give Green Bay a reliable kicker for the future.

Why it matters

The Packers hope Smack's proven leg will finally end years of kicking inconsistency.
