Packers eye rookie Matthew Golden as potential breakout receiver amid Jacobs' absence

The Green Bay Packers are reshaping their offense after Josh Jacobs was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list, prompting the team to seek new playmakers. They released Romeo Doubs to the New England Patriots and traded Dontayvion Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles, opening space for rookie receiver Matthew Golden. Coach Matt LaFleur emphasized the need to get his three primary receivers—Christian Watson, Jayden Reed and Golden—on the field as often as possible.

Golden entered the league as the 23rd overall pick after impressing at the 2025 combine with the fastest 40-yard dash among receivers. In his rookie season he appeared in 14 games, starting five, and recorded 29 receptions for 361 yards, adding a playoff touchdown against the Bears. The team hopes his speed and potential will help offset the loss of Jacobs and diversify the passing attack.
