Pakistan's weekly inflation climbs to 11.85% as flour and energy prices surge
Short-term inflation in Pakistan rose to 11.85% year-on-year for the week ending Oct 22, mainly because wheat flour and petroleum costs increased.
Official data show short-term inflation reaching 11.85% year-on-year in the week to Oct 22, driven largely by wheat flour and energy prices. Among the 51 items monitored, 19 rose, 12 declined and 20 were unchanged. Weekly price spikes were led by LPG, chicken, onions and plain bread, while tomatoes and petrol fell.
On an annual basis, LPG, onions and electricity posted the biggest jumps, whereas tomatoes and potatoes saw sharp declines. The government has continued to raise petrol and diesel daily, intensifying cost-push inflation and boosting sales-tax collections. These trends are putting additional strain on Pakistani households.
Why it matters
Higher food and fuel prices are tightening budgets for millions of Pakistani families.
