Pakistan sends 100 tonnes of aid to Nepal amid deadly floods and landslides

In response to the catastrophic floods and landslides that struck Nepal, Pakistan sent a 100-tonne humanitarian consignment comprising tents, blankets, mats, hygiene kits and medicines, coordinated by the National Disaster Management Authority and delivered via a chartered flight from Islamabad. The hand-over at Islamabad airport was witnessed by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Nepal's Ambassador Rita Dhital and senior officials from the Foreign Office.

The disaster, triggered by a glacial and mountain collapse on the China-Nepal border, has claimed at least 1,384 lives and left over 5,500 people missing across the region, with Nepal alone reporting 1,341 bodies recovered. Rescue operations, now in their 12th day, have rescued four survivors, including a Chinese worker and a 64-year-old Nepali woman, while searches continue in hydropower tunnels and other sites. Nepal's Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha noted ongoing efforts to restore electricity, using solar solutions where needed. The United Nations has launched a $50 million appeal for more than 84,000 affected individuals, and officials warned that reconstruction costs could run into billions, exacerbated by climate-change-driven glacial melt.
