Pakistan trims petrol by 14 paisa, diesel by Rs1.89 per litre
The government lowered fuel prices on Wednesday, cutting petrol by Re0.14 per litre and high-speed diesel by Rs1.89.
On Wednesday the Pakistani government announced a modest reduction in fuel tariffs, decreasing petrol by Re0.14 per litre to Rs387.40 and high-speed diesel by Rs1.89 to Rs400.35, effective from Oct 1. These prices remain subject to a tax burden of Rs114 per litre on petrol and Rs100 on diesel. The cuts come after both fuels peaked in early April at Rs458.41 for petrol and Rs520.35 for diesel, driven by the US-Iran conflict.
In parallel, the state reinstated austerity measures such as a 9 p.m. market closure and a half-price fuel allocation for government vehicles for three months. A relief programme for motorcycles, autos and vehicles up to 800 cc, unveiled by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has attracted roughly 7.60 million registrations and 7.71 million token redemptions. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar praised the coordinated effort of multiple ministries and agencies in implementing the scheme.
