Palestinian Authority seeks US approval for UN General Assembly delegation
The Palestinian Authority's diplomatic chief says the United States has not yet granted entry visas for a Ramallah delegation to attend the UN General Assembly in New York.
During a visit to Lisbon, Varsen Aghabekian, the chief diplomat of the Palestinian Authority, said she has not heard any indication that the United States will issue visas for a Ramallah delegation to the UN General Assembly in New York. The United States had previously turned down a visa request from President Mahmoud Abbas for the prior assembly. This year, the assembly is scheduled to open in New York, and the Palestinian delegation is seeking permission to participate.
Aghabekian emphasized the uncertainty surrounding the authorization and expressed hope that the U.S. will not repeat its earlier decision. No official response from U.S. officials was reported.
