Palestinian farmer killed and 16 injured in West Bank settler attack
A 44-year-old Palestinian was shot dead and 16 others wounded while harvesting olives near Burqa, as settlers attacked under Israeli military protection.
During an olive-harvesting operation near Burqa, northwest of Nablus, Palestinian farmer Ali Hassan Yasser al-Bazzari, 44, was shot dead by settlers who were allegedly shielded by Israeli forces. Sixteen other Palestinians suffered injuries, including gunshot wounds and beatings, and were transported to medical facilities in Tulkarem and Nablus. The Palestine Red Crescent Society provided emergency care to five of the victims and reported that Israeli troops also assaulted ambulance crews, briefly detaining three paramedics and a volunteer.
Local sources said the attack is part of an escalating pattern of settler violence during the harvest season, which has already seen thousands of olive trees destroyed across the occupied West Bank. Similar assaults were reported near Anata in the central region. The violence has turned a traditionally communal and economic activity into a dangerous ordeal for Palestinian farmers.
