Palestinian man arrested for filming Tel Aviv-area light rail station while posing as Israeli
Israeli police detained a 32-year-old Palestinian who was illegally in Israel and filmed an underground light-rail station, claiming to be an Israeli resident.
On Monday, light-rail security guards at the Aharonovich underground station in Bnei Brak stopped a 32-year-old Palestinian man who was filming the facility. The individual, who has a record that includes weapons manufacturing and stone-throwing, presented an identity card claiming residence in the Arab-majority city of Tayibe. Further checks revealed he was a West Bank resident without a legal entry permit and had falsely identified himself as an Israeli citizen.
He was arrested by the Tel Aviv District Police’s light-rail unit and transferred to the Bnei Brak police station for interrogation, with a court appearance scheduled for Tuesday. The Shin Bet domestic security service has joined the investigation, though officials have not explained whether the filming was linked to a planned attack.
