Palestinian parliamentary election scheduled for November 28 as EU readies observers

Mahmoud Abbas issued a decree in July setting the date for a legislative vote across Judea and Samaria, eastern Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip on 28 November. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said she raised the importance of a credible, inclusive and transparent voting process in a phone call with Palestinian Vice President Hussein al‑Sheikh. The EU is prepared to launch an Election Observation Mission for the poll. The election would be the first parliamentary ballot since the 2006 contest that split Gaza and the West Bank.
