Palisades Village Mall Reopens, Signaling a Milestone in Post-Fire Recovery
Palisades Village shopping center reopened on Aug. 15 after $100 million in renovations, marking a key step in Pacific Palisades' rebound from the 2025 wildfires.
Following the January 2025 wildfires that razed more than 5,600 homes and businesses in Pacific Palisades, the Palisades Village shopping center reopened on Aug. 15, offering a symbolic boost for the fire-weary community. Owned by developer Rick Caruso, the 125,000-square-foot complex underwent more than $100 million in renovations, including major infrastructure upgrades. One-third of its stores are new, featuring an Italian steakhouse by Nancy Silverton, women’s apparel brand LESET, and a shop by local designer Elyse Walker, who lost her longtime flagship in the fire.
Returning tenants such as Angelini Ristorante & Bar and relocated shops like K Bakery signal a gradual return of commerce. Community council president Allison Holdorff Polhill, whose home was destroyed, described the reopening as a hopeful sign, though she estimates full rebuilding will take five years. Caruso defended his use of private firefighters during the blaze, crediting fire-resistant construction for the mall’s survival, and noted that about 30 % of the Village’s customer base remains displaced. Nearby neighborhoods continue reconstruction, with residents like Julian Bostic viewing the mall’s revival as a beacon of optimism.
Why it matters
The mall’s reopening provides a commercial and emotional anchor for a community still rebuilding after a massive wildfire.
