Palm Springs Airport launches $2.2 billion upgrade plan through 2036

Palm Springs International Airport announced a $2.2 billion expansion that may extend to 2036 and potentially increase gate count from 18 to 32. The master plan projects passenger traffic to climb from roughly 3.2 million in 2024 to about 6.4 million by 2042, according to CalMatters. Initial work will add seven gates on a new north concourse, a rental-car center adjacent to baggage claim, and 80 Level 2 electric-vehicle chargers in Parking Lot B by the end of 2026.

In 2027, the airport will roll out automated license-plate readers, contactless ticketing, and real-time space tracking for parking. By 2028, a revamped luggage-handling system and a U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility are expected, with further south-concourse gates planned for later phases, contingent on passenger growth and financing.
