Panama-registered cargo ship sinks off Odisha, rescue efforts underway
A Panama-flagged cargo vessel carrying iron ore sank in the Bay of Bengal about 240 nautical miles from Paradip, leaving 24 crew members, mostly Chinese, in need of rescue.
The cargo ship, en route from Odisha to Singapore, went down on Saturday in the Bay of Bengal, roughly 240 nautical miles off the Paradip coastline. All 24 crew members aboard were reported as Chinese nationals. The Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy have launched a search and rescue operation, while nearby vessels have been alerted to assist. Authorities have not yet confirmed how many crew members have been rescued.
