Paramount Skydance caps employee Claude usage to curb AI spend

Paramount Skydance has introduced monthly token limits for staff using Anthropic's Claude AI, aiming to control costs while still encouraging AI adoption.

Paramount Skydance has set individualized monthly caps on Claude token consumption for its technology workforce, a step meant to limit unnecessary AI expenses. The token limits, communicated through the company’s #claude-users Slack channel, are designed to be a guardrail rather than a barrier, with most users unlikely to notice any impact on routine tasks. Employees who need more tokens can submit a request form to obtain additional usage.

This initiative mirrors recent AI governance actions at Disney, which warned against “tokenmaxxing,” and Microsoft, whose CEO Satya Nadella described token overuse as potentially addictive. While the limits have sparked some discussion among staff, the company maintains that it remains supportive of AI tools. The policy is introduced as Paramount navigates financial pressures linked to its stalled $110 billion merger with Warner Bros. Discovery, which carries daily “ticking” fees and potential termination costs.

Why it matters

The limits show how media firms are managing AI costs while still promoting technology adoption.
