Paramount targets two-week closure of Warner Bros. Discovery merger

David Ellison sent a staff memorandum stating that the merger of Paramount Skydance with Warner Bros. Discovery is set to close in approximately two weeks, after clearing legal obstacles. The clearance resulted from a settlement announced by California Attorney General Rob Bonta on behalf of himself and eleven other state attorneys general, as well as a settlement with the Writers Guild of America.

The memo outlines that the combined entity will commit to delivering over 30 films each year and expanding U.S. film production to help revitalize the industry. Ellison expressed optimism that the union of the two iconic studios will create more opportunities for creatives, crews and audiences, while acknowledging employee uncertainty and offering channels for questions. He emphasized that closing the deal is merely the starting line for a longer integration process. The announcement was made on a day when most of Hollywood observes Yom Kippur.
