Parents ordered to pay damages after newborn's death linked to neglect

A court found a mother and father liable for the death of their infant, ordering them to compensate six relatives while they remain free pending appeal.

A newborn girl, who weighed roughly three kilograms at birth, died after developing lung and heart infections, severe dehydration, and extensive skin lesions due to parental neglect. The parents left the hospital a few hours after delivery and did not change diapers or seek medical help, allowing the child's condition to deteriorate. The court found that from early February the parents failed to provide necessary care, leading to a weight loss of about one third.

On the day of death, emergency services were called, but the child could not be saved. The judgment, which is not yet final, orders the parents to pay approximately a quarter of a million crowns in non-pecuniary damages to six related children, and they remain free while they consider an appeal.
