Paris drug deaths double in 2026, cocaine and synthetic mixes drive surge
Paris recorded 59 fatal overdoses by 28 September 2026, more than twice the 30 deaths reported in 2025, officials say.
Paris authorities reported 59 overdose fatalities by 28 September 2026, more than double the 30 recorded in 2025. Prosecutor Laure Beccuau described the trend as a “particularly alarming” explosion of deaths, while magistrate Marion Py highlighted that the victims span all ages, genders and social classes, even including a minor. Cocaine is involved in about half the cases, frequently combined with synthetic substances and consumed in varied settings, from private homes to chemsex parties.
Police chief Guillaume Batigne said the drug market has become more accessible through a network of call-centers that deliver a wide range of narcotics. Officials warn that the rise of unknown-dose synthetic mixes and poly-drug use is driving the surge.
Why it matters
