Paris families file new collective complaint against city over school-care abuse scandal

Around twenty families of kindergarten children who attended the Saint-Dominique and Volontaires after-school programs will submit a collective complaint to the Paris prosecutor’s office.

A group of about twenty families, whose children attended the Saint-Dominique (7th arrondissement) and Volontaires (15th arrondissement) after-school programs in 2025-2026, will lodge a collective complaint with the Paris public prosecutor. Their lawyer, Louis Cailliez, says the suit accuses the City of Paris of crimes such as endangering others, failing to report sexual abuse and neglecting minors in danger, and also alleges false testimony by former mayor Anne Hidalgo.

Fourteen persons are specifically named, among them current mayor Emmanuel Grégoire, former mayor Anne Hidalgo and former first deputy Patrick Bloche, as well as senior officials of the city's Dasco school-affairs department. The complaint seeks to reinforce an investigation already opened by prosecutor Laure Beccuau, which has resulted in the suspension of 195 after-school staff, including 74 suspected of sexual offences, and over 230 criminal probes in Paris schools and crèches. The mayor has pledged cooperation with the inquiry.

Why it matters

The filing could hold city officials accountable and influence how Paris addresses abuse in its school-care system.
