Paris returns to normal after weekend riots, cleanup continues

National security forces have quelled the large-scale riots that disrupted Paris, and cleanup work is now under way.

Massive riots that paralysed Paris over the weekend were contained by national security forces, allowing the city to resume normal activity. Ozel Zaenal, a 40-year-old Malaysian guide who was present during the turmoil, said that clean-up operations are progressing and that most commercial premises have reopened, though some boutiques stay shut. He described a noticeable drop in tension, with no police, fire or ambulance sirens audible in the streets.

Zaenal cautioned travelers to steer clear of the metro network despite improvements, recommending they stay outside the city centre to minimise risk. The unrest was part of a broader wave of protests across Europe, sparked by grievances over student welfare, public services and rising living costs.
